• Takayama Line: Sakahogi ⇄ Kagamigahara

Unuma Station opened on 12 November 1921 with the Takayama Line extension between Kagamigahara and Mino-Ōta, handling both passengers and freight. From 8 October 1932 a Meigi Railway (later Meitetsu) Inuyama Line through-service began running here on weekends and holidays. A connecting line was added on 27 September 1972, ending the through-service "Kita-Alps" express's switchback at Unuma. Freight ceased on 10 January 1984 and parcel handling on 14 March 1985. JR Central took over on 1 April 1987. The pedestrian overpass was completed on 29 March 2009, converting the station to an elevated structure, and TOICA service began on 13 March 2010.

Unuma's elevated walkway is named "Unuma Aerial Promenade" and is open as a public free passage between the JR Unuma east side and Meitetsu Shin-Unuma west side, accessible without entering either station.
