Takahatafudō Station, in the city of Hino in western Tokyo, opened on 24 March 1925 as Takahata Station with the inauguration of the Gyokunan Electric Railway — today's Keio Line. The station was renamed Takahatafudō on 1 May 1937, after the nearby Kongō-ji Temple, popularly known as Takahatafudō. In 1957 four-car rapid and semi-rapid services to Shinjuku began during peak periods. The Tama Dōbutsuen Line opened from the station on 29 April 1964, prompting the station building to be moved to its present location. The Tama Toshi Monorail Line opened on 10 January 2000, and major rebuilding through to March 2007 linked the Keio and monorail areas with a shopping centre.

The station's name comes from the nearby Kongō-ji Temple, popularly known as Takahatafudō; the area's growth from temple-village to commuter suburb is tracked in the station's three rebuilds between 1925 and 2007.
