Location
History
Manganji Station opened on 10 January 2000 with the Tachikawa-Kita–Tama-Center extension of the Tama Toshi Monorail. The two opposed side platforms sit on an elevated structure above the intersection of National Route 20 (the Hino Bypass) and Tokyo Route 503. Station numbering was applied in February 2018, giving the stop code TT08. The station is unstaffed during most hours: when assistance is needed, passengers use an intercom to reach the adjacent Takahatafudō Station. A small kiosk on the platform closed in April 2012, and the station is best known as the closest monorail stop to Hijikata Toshizō's birthplace and grave.
Notes
Despite the name, no temple called Manganji exists in the neighbourhood; an 1828 gazetteer already recorded that the original temple had vanished, and no surviving relic confirms it ever existed.
