Taimadera Station opened on 29 March 1929 as a stop on the Osaka Railway in what is now Katsuragi, Nara Prefecture. A company merger on 1 February 1943 transferred the station to the Kansai Express Railway, and a further wartime merger on 1 June 1944 placed it under Kintetsu, where it serves the Minami-Osaka Line. The station has two opposed side platforms with an effective length of four cars and is unattended; the ticket gates and concourse are at ground level. The station takes its name from the nearby Taima-dera, a temple known for its peonies.

The station is named for the adjacent Taima-dera temple, whose grounds are a celebrated sightseeing spot for peony blossoms.
