History

Karasuma Oike Station opened on May 29, 1981 as Oike Station, on the same day the inaugural Kyoto Subway Karasuma Line section between Kitaoji and Kyoto entered service. Through service to and from the Kintetsu Kyoto Line began on August 28, 1988. The station was renamed Karasuma-Oike on May 22, 1997 in preparation for the opening of the Tōzai Line, which entered service on October 12, 1997 with a connecting platform at the same complex. PiTaPa service began on April 1, 2007. Through service to the Keihan Keishin Line started on January 16, 2008 with the Tōzai Line extension to Uzumasa-Tenjingawa.

Notes

The underground shopping arcade Kotochika Oike opened beneath the station on May 16, 2011.
