History
Etchū-Kokubu Station opened on 1 July 1953 as a passenger-only stop inserted between Fushiki and Amaharashi on the Japanese National Railways Himi Line, making it the most recent addition to the line. Its original platform was too short for trains longer than three cars, so only diesel railcar services initially called there; an extension completed in February 1965 enabled five-car trains to stop. The station passed to JR West on 1 April 1987 with the privatisation of JNR. The station building, originally painted in a blue-and-white sky theme, was repainted entirely white around 2016. ICOCA acceptance is scheduled to begin on 14 March 2026.
