Amaharashi Station opened on 4 April 1912 as part of the Chūetsu Railway extension between Fushiki and Shimao, taking its name from the famous Amaharashi coast it serves. With nationalisation of the Chūetsu Railway in 1920 it became part of the Himi Light Railway, renamed the Himi Line in 1922. Freight and parcel handling were withdrawn between 1959 and 1982. JR West took over on 1 April 1987. In July 1991 the operator removed its on-site staff and entrusted day-to-day station duties to a local promotion association formed by tourist and neighbourhood groups, which still runs the office and an attached visitor-information desk. The Belles Montagnes et Mer joyful train calls here for coastal viewing.
