• Negishi Line: Shin-Sugita ⇄ Konandai

Yōkōdai Station opened on 17 March 1970 as a terminus of the JNR Negishi Line, extended from Isogo. The surrounding land had been a small farming hamlet called Yabeno until rapid 1970s housing development; residents began moving in three months after the station opened. The Negishi Line was extended to Ōfuna on 9 April 1973, making Yōkōdai a through station. JR East took over on 1 April 1987 at JNR privatisation. Automated turnstiles followed in February 1994 and Suica IC card service in November 2001. For a period after opening only the inbound track was laid; the second track was added later. Smart platform doors entered service on 5 July 2025.

The name Yōkōdai (literally 'sun-light heights') is said to derive from the morning sun rising over Tokyo Bay seen from the area, replacing the old name Yabeno that survives only in a tunnel and an overpass nearby.
