• JR Yamatoji Line: Koriyama (Nara) ⇄ Horyuji

Yamato-Koizumi Station opened on 25 August 1920 as a general station on the Railway Ministry's Kansai Main Line, set between Koriyama and Horyuji. Freight handling ended on 1 February 1961 and parcels in February 1984. JR West took over the station at the 1 April 1987 privatisation, and the Yamatoji Line nickname was applied the following year. Automatic gates entered service on 30 July 1998 and a temporary overhead-concourse station opened on 3 March 2001, with the connecting free passageway completed that July. ICOCA was accepted from 1 November 2003 and the Midori no Madoguchi ticket office closed on 29 February 2020, replaced the following day by a Midori no Kenbaiki Plus machine. Station numbering JR-Q33 came into use on 17 March 2018, and the new commuter limited express Rakuraku Yamato began calling at the station on 16 March 2024.

Yamato-Koizumi handles more daily passengers than any other Yamatoji Line station between Oji and Nara, ranking third among JR stations in Nara Prefecture.
