History

Urasa Station opened on 1923-09-01 on what is now the Jōetsu Line, 123.9 kilometres from the line's starting point at Takasaki. Jōetsu Shinkansen services began on 1982-11-15. JR East took over operations on 1987-04-01 at JNR privatisation. The station sits in the city of Minamiuonuma, Niigata, and serves as the rail gateway to International University of Japan and the Urasa ski area. The current layout combines two ground-level island platforms for the Jōetsu Line with two elevated opposed side platforms serving the Shinkansen. A staffed assistance ticket machine handles reserved-seat purchases via remote operator.
