• Chūō Main Line: Nishi-Hachioji

Takao Station opened on 1 August 1901 as Asakawa Station, on what is now the JR Chūō Main Line in present-day Hachiōji, Tokyo. It was renamed Takao Station in 1961. The Keio Takao Line station, with which it interchanges, opened on 1 October 1967. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 the JR side came under JR East. The JR platforms consist of two island platforms serving four tracks with a staffed Midori no Madoguchi ticket office, while the Keio Takao Line uses a single elevated island platform serving two tracks. The station is 53.1 kilometres from Tokyo Station and is the last major Tokyo-side stop on the westbound Chūō Main Line, so many local and rapid services terminate here.
