Takadahonzan Station opened on 10 September 1915 as Ishindenchō Station on the Ise Railway, sited 200 metres south of today's Higashi-Ishinden Station on the Ise Tetsudō Ise Line. It became a through station on 1 January 1917 when the line was extended toward Edobashi and Tsu, and was renamed Takadahonzan on 1 November 1918. Successive corporate changes brought it under Ise Electric Railway in 1926, Sangū Express Electric Railway in 1936, Kansai Express Railway in 1941, and finally Kintetsu on 1 June 1944. The station was relocated 500 metres east on 15 July 1955 as part of a route realignment between Edobashi and Shiratsuka. PiTaPa acceptance began on 1 April 2007, and the station was destaffed on 21 December 2013.

Despite its name referring to Senshū-ji temple ("Takada-Honzan"), Senshū-ji actually lies 1.4 km from the station — JR's Ishinden Station on the Kisei Line is the closer access point.
