Location
History
Sumikawa Station opened on 16 December 1971 with the inaugural Namboku Line of the Sapporo Municipal Subway between Kita-24-Jō and Makomanai. The station number N14 was assigned on 26 January 2006, and platform-edge sliding doors were brought into service on 6 February 2013. Sumikawa is one of only four Sapporo Municipal Subway stations built above ground; all four lie at the southern end of the Namboku Line. The station consists of a single elevated island platform serving two tracks, with ticket gates on the ground floor and the platform on the upper level.
Notes
The station and surrounding district are named after the nearby Shōjin River; 'Sumikawa' (literally 'clear river') refers to that stream's clear flow and the name was coined in the early Shōwa period.
