Shōzui Station opened on 1 July 1916 as a halt on the privately run Awa Electric Railway, later the Awa Railway. After that company was nationalised on 1 July 1933, Japanese Government Railways operated the stop on its Awa Line, which became part of the Kōtoku Main Line on 20 March 1935. The station was relocated southward in March 1957 when the present building was completed. Freight handling ended on 1 February 1984 and parcel handling on 14 March 1985. Control passed to JR Shikoku on 1 April 1987. Hours were shortened in October 2019 with weekend closure, and on 16 March 2024 the station became fully unstaffed. When the Uzushio express skips Ikenotani, Shōzui is treated as the official transfer point to the Naruto Line, with a special fare-calculation rule for the bypass.
