Shippō Station opened on 23 January 1914 at Okinoshima-Henjōji, Shippō-chō, Ama, Aichi Prefecture, on the Meitetsu Tsushima Line. It was de-staffed on 25 March 1952, then re-staffed as a contracted-operation station on 15 October 1961. The unified station-management system was introduced on 14 July 2005 along with the Tranpass magnetic card, when the station became unstaffed again. The Manaca IC card came into service on 11 February 2011, and Tranpass operation ended on 29 February 2012.

A water-supply main of the Nagoya City Waterworks and Sewerage Bureau, connecting the Asahi water-collection facility in Ichinomiya City to the Ōji Water Purification Plant in Ōji-chō, Ama District, runs directly beneath Shippō Station, sharing its route with the Owari Cycling Road that follows the conduit alignment.
