History

Shinza Station opened on 22 March 1997, the day the Hokuhoku Line itself opened across Niigata. Operated by the third-sector Hokuetsu Express, the station serves the city of Tōkamachi and lies 14.4 kilometers from the line's starting point at Muikamachi. It is built around a single ground-level side platform along one bi-directional track and is unattended. In fiscal 2011 it averaged 102 boarding passengers a day, reflecting its role as a small local stop serving nearby Tōkamachi schools rather than long-distance demand.
