History
Shinkaichi Station opened on 7 April 1968 as a shared interchange beneath the Shinkaichi district of Kobe, with all services running on Kobe Rapid Transit Railway lines as through services from Hanshin, Hankyu, and Kobe Electric Railway. The Kobe Rapid Transit company owns the tracks while the three operators run the trains. The station became a terminal for several through services from Umeda and the Kintetsu Nara Line as well as the southern terminus of Kobe Electric Railway. It sustained damage in the 1995 Great Hanshin earthquake; restoration of the Tozai Line section took six months. Station numbering was introduced on 1 April 2014.
