Location
History
Shin-Iizuka Station opened on 15 June 1902 as the freight-only Yoshio Station on the Kyushu Railway. After nationalisation in 1907 the line was designated the Chikuho Main Line in 1909, and on 10 May 1920 the station was upgraded to carry passengers as well. It was renamed Shin-Iizuka on 1 February 1935. Privatisation in 1987 brought it under JR Kyushu, and a new bridge-style station building opened on 11 August 2001. SUGOCA service started on 1 March 2009. The station is the junction between the Chikuhō Main Line (Fukuhoku Yutaka Line) and the Gotōji Line and remains the practical centre of Iizuka rail traffic.
Notes
Iizuka City Hall moved from near old Iizuka Station to a site by Shin-Iizuka in 1964, and from then on this newer stop took over as the city's de-facto main station.
