• Kisei Line: Kameyama (Mie) ⇄ Ishinden

Shimonoshō Station opened on 21 August 1891 as a general station on the privately owned Kansai Railway, on the Kameyama–Ichishiden section. The line was nationalised on 1 October 1907, redesignated the Sangū Line in the line-naming reform of 12 October 1909, and re-zoned into the Kisei Main Line between Kameyama and Taki on 15 July 1959 — sweeping Shimonoshō into the Kisei Main Line as it stands today. Freight handling ended on 1 February 1962, baggage handling on 1 April 1974, and the station became unattended on 21 December 1983. Operation passed to JR Central with the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987. TOICA IC service is scheduled to begin in spring 2027.

An old station building stood on the west side of the No. 1 platform for many years but has since been demolished and replaced with a small wait shelter. The area around Kameyama including Shimonoshō has been named as one of the candidate sites for Chūō Shinkansen "Mie Station" (tentative name).
