Sekigawa Station opened on 15 April 1961 as a Japanese National Railways infill stop on the existing Yosan Line in what is now the city of Shikokuchūō, Ehime Prefecture. It has been unstaffed since 1 October 1968 and has never had a station building — only a waiting shelter on its single side platform, with a ramp leading down from the access road above. A through track parallel to the platform line allows non-stopping services to pass at up to 100 km/h. JR Shikoku took over from JNR on 1 April 1987, and Yosan Line locals, Rapid Sunport and Nanpū Relay services now call at station number Y27.

The station takes its name from the Seki River, which flows just south of the platform; crossing the river leads to Japan National Route 11.
