History
Sakurai Station opened on 12 April 1910 as a new station on the Mino-Arima Electric Tramway (today's Hankyu Railway), between Ishibashi (now Ishibashi-handai-mae) and Mino, in Sakurai 2-chōme, Mino, Osaka. Station numbering was introduced across Hankyu on 21 December 2013, with Sakurai assigned HK-57.
Notes
A line-extension scheme once proposed running the Senri Line south from Minami-Senri via Senri-chūō to Sakurai, in order to relieve crowding on the Takarazuka Line, but it was abandoned after the Takarazuka Line's own capacity was strengthened — the construction licence was formally cancelled in December 1972.
