• Nanao Line: Noto-Kashima ⇄ Noto-Nakajima

Nishigishi Station opened on 27 August 1932 with the extension of the Nanao Line from Noto-Nakajima to Anamizu, initially handling both passengers and freight. Freight service ended on 1 April 1960 and parcel handling on 15 March 1972, after which the station became unstaffed. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR West. On 1 September 1991 the Wakura-Onsen–Wajima section of the Nanao Line was transferred from JR West to the Noto Railway, and the station has since been operated by that third-sector company. It retains two opposed side platforms on a passing loop, with the ticket-office windows now sealed.

The station served as the model for fictional 'Yunosagi Station' in the 2011 anime Hanasaku Iroha, and on 29 April 2011 a 'Yunosagi' nameplate was unveiled on the platform—periodically refreshed when it fades and routinely swapped onto the building signage during the Yuwaku Bonbori Festival each autumn.
