• JR Karatsu Line: Karatsu

Nishi-Karatsu Station opened on 1 December 1898 as Myōken Station, the eastern starting point of a Karatsu Kogyo Railway line built west to Yamamoto, with a further extension to Kyūragi following on 13 June 1899. The operator was absorbed into the Kyushu Railway in February 1902, and the stop was renamed Nishi-Karatsu on 11 October 1905. Nationalisation came on 1 July 1907, and the route was designated the Karatsu Line on 12 October 1909. The present station building dates from August 1982, electrification of the Karatsu–Nishi-Karatsu section was completed in March 1983, and JR Kyushu took over operation in April 1987.

Nishi-Karatsu is Saga Prefecture's northernmost station, and although it is the nominal terminus of the Karatsu Line, the only electrified section of that line is the 2.2 km stub between Karatsu and here — the rest of the Karatsu Line stays diesel.
