History

Miyama Station opened on 15 December 1960 as part of the Japanese National Railways Etsumi-Hoku Line between Echizen-Hanandō and Katsuhara. It came under JR West control with the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987 and was made unattended in 1992. After torrential rains damaged the line on 18 July 2004, the station was closed; replacement bus services operated until partial reopening on 11 September 2004, and full restoration of the Miyama–Ichijōdani section came on 30 June 2007. The original station building, similar to Echizen-Tōgō Station, was later demolished and replaced by a new simplified building combined with the Miyama Tourist Terminal in Fukui City.
