• JR Tōzai Line: Kashima (Osaka) ⇄ Ebie

Mitejima Station opened on 8 March 1997, coinciding with the full opening of the JR Tōzai Line between Amagasaki and Kyōbashi; the J-Through fare card was introduced at the same time. ICOCA use became possible on 1 November 2003. A line-management system for the JR Takarazuka, JR Tōzai and Gakkentoshi lines was introduced on 8 March 2011, along with an approach melody. Station numbering JR-H47 was introduced on 17 March 2018. The Midori-no-Madoguchi (staffed ticket window) ceased operations on 30 November 2025.

The station symbol is a ferry boat ("watashibune"), chosen because many rivers once flowed in the area and ferry boats plied them; the station colour is sky grey. The underground island platform serves two tracks and accommodates eight-car trains.
