Mineyama Station opened on 3 November 1925 on the Miyazu Line, in what is now the city of Kyōtango, Kyoto Prefecture. The line is operated today by Willer Trains under the Kyoto Tango Railway brand, and the station sits 48.3 kilometres from the line's terminus at Nishi-Maizuru. The station combines a ground-level island platform with a single side platform, connected by an elevated station building that houses a ticket window, a kiosk and a waiting room and uses a loom motif in its design. It remains a staffed station. Nearby sit the former Mineyama Town Hall and Kyoto Prefectural Mineyama High School, reflecting Mineyama's historic role as a regional hub of the Tango weaving district.

The elevated station building incorporates a loom motif in reference to the textile-weaving heritage of the surrounding Tango district.
