Minami-Funabashi Station is an elevated stop in Funabashi city, Chiba prefecture, operated by JR East and lying 26.0 km from Tokyo on the Keiyō Line; Musashino Line services also reach the station via the Keiyō Line's Futamata branch from Nishi-Funabashi. The station opened on 3 March 1986 with the original Keiyō Line — the working name during construction had been "Wakamatsuchō". On 1 April 1987 it passed from Japanese National Railways to JR East at privatisation, and on 1 December 1988 it became a junction stop when the Keiyō Line was extended to Shin-Kiba. The 1 December 2002 timetable revision added rapid-service stops here and rerouted daytime Musashino Line trains to start and terminate at Minami-Funabashi rather than Kaihimmakuhari.

Platforms 2 and 3 dead-end on the Soga side and exist solely to turn back Musashino Line through-trains; the scheduled timetable assigns no departures from platform 2 after 13:00.
