History
Mikawa Kashima Station opened on 24 July 1936 in the city of Gamagōri, Aichi Prefecture, on the Meitetsu Gamagōri Line, 13.5 km from the line's starting point at Kira-Yoshida. The passing loop was removed on 29 November 1961 and the station was de-staffed on 16 June 1965, after which the station building itself was eventually torn down. Line realignment work on 7 May 1968 straightened the track geometry around the stop. The station now consists of a single side platform serving one bi-directional track and accommodates two-car trains. Although no on-site staff are present, an automated ticket machine has been installed on the platform for one-person-operation services between Kira-Yoshida and Gamagōri, with an intercom connecting passengers to remote staff.
Notes
Although Meitetsu's Manaca IC card is accepted at most stations on the network, Mikawa Kashima is one of the small unstaffed Gamagōri Line stops where Manaca cannot be used.
