Menden Station opened on 1 May 1950 as a passenger and small-parcel stop inserted between Takamatsu and Hōdatsu on the Japanese National Railways Nanao Line in what is now the town of Hōdatsushimizu. It became a simplified-commission station in October 1961, was rebuilt in November 1970, and was destaffed in 1972 when parcel handling was discontinued. With the breakup of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR West. ICOCA acceptance began on 13 March 2021. The ticket-vending machine was withdrawn on 30 September 2024. The station retains the Nanao Line's only island platform with two tracks, allowing trains to pass one another.
