Meiden-Yamanaka Station opened on 1 April 1926 as Aiden-Yamanaka on the Aichi Electric Railway, in present-day Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture, and was renamed Meiden-Yamanaka on 1 December 1938. The station became unstaffed by November 1948. A new centralised station management system was introduced on 14 December 2005 together with Tranpass, and IC card travel using manaca began on 11 February 2011. The station has two opposed four-car platforms each with its own ticket gate; passengers cannot move between platforms within the fare area, and there are no platform toilets. Only local trains stop, so journeys to Toyohashi require at least one change.

The line passes through pronounced curves on either side of the station, and a 2025 outlet-mall opening at Mitsui Outlet Park Okazaki has nudged ridership up despite the walking-only access.
