• Tsuyama Line: Nonokuchi ⇄ Tamagashi

Makiyama Station opened on 10 October 1912 on the line now known as the Tsuyama Line, 11.4 rail-kilometers north of Okayama Station. With the breakup of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR West, which continues to operate it as an unstaffed local stop in the Takebe-chō neighbourhood of Kita-ku, Okayama. The two ground-level opposed side platforms — connected by a footbridge — are narrow because the alignment runs along a cliff, and trains in both directions normally use Platform 2 next to the small station building, which is little more than a waiting room. The outer Platform 1 is used only when two trains meet at the station.

The area’s former primary-school branch closed in 2004, and the building has been preserved next to the station as the community facility La Porte Makiyama.
