History

Maimatsubara Station was opened by JR Kyushu on 1 March 1994 as an additional stop on the existing Kashii Line, in Higashi-ku, Fukuoka. The station sits 14.8 km from the line origin at Saitozaki and was built in a cutting under street level surrounded by high-rise buildings, with the station building spanning the cutting at street level. The platform is reached by a flight of steps from the small ticket hall. On 14 March 2015 it became a remotely managed "Smart Support Station": staff were withdrawn but passengers could receive intercom assistance for ticket machines and gates. The surrounding district is a residential area that was first developed by JR Kyushu together with two other partners.

Notes

JR Kyushu jointly developed the surrounding residential district with two other companies, and there are many condominiums in the immediate area.
