History

Kushida Shrine Station opened on 27 March 2023 as part of the Fukuoka City Subway Nanakuma Line's eastern extension from Tenjin-Minami to Hakata Station. The station name was finalised on 1 July 2021 and takes its name from Kushida Shrine, the Hakata district's tutelary shrine just to the north. An original 2020 opening had been pushed back roughly three years after a major sinkhole opened on Hakata Station's forecourt on 8 November 2016 during tunnel construction.
