Since 1 July 2013 the train-approach melody at Kure has been the theme song of the anime Space Battleship Yamato, chosen because the battleship Yamato was built at the former Imperial Japanese Navy arsenal that adjoined the station; the Yamato Museum stands just south of the station today.
