History
Kobi Station opened on 25 November 1922 as a stop on the newly extended Takayama Line (renamed Takayama Main Line in 1934) between Mino-Ōta and Shimo-Aso, handling both passengers and freight. Freight service ended on 20 April 1973 and parcel handling on 1 February 1984. The station became part of JR Central on 1 April 1987 with the privatization of Japanese National Railways. The simple commission arrangement under Tokai Transport ended on 31 March 2011, leaving the station unstaffed, and a replacement station building entered service on 13 March 2017. The name comes from the former Kobi-chō, which predates the city of Minokamo.
Notes
The station's high-speed (110 km/h) Y-point turnouts replaced the original switches so passing trains no longer need to slow through the loop.
