History

Kenritsu-Taiikukan-mae opened on 20 January 1983 as a Kumamoto City Transportation Bureau stop on the Kami-Kumamoto Line, numbered B2. Platform-extension and shelter work to prepare for new rolling stock was carried out between January and March 2024.

Notes

Although the stop is named after the Kumamoto Prefectural Gymnasium, the gymnasium itself is about 200 m east — reached by crossing a marked crossing without a traffic light.
