History

Kenkun-Kōbanmae opened on 20 May 1956 as Kenkun-Hashutsujomae Station on the Kumamoto City Tram Kenkun Line. On 1 April 1995 it was renamed Kenkun-Kōbanmae after the Kenkun police box of the Kumamoto Higashi Police Station, which still sits beside the stop. It has the standard relative-platform layout reached via a pedestrian crossing and is stop number 25 on the Kenkun Line. Morning Karashima-machi-bound trams often arrive packed from the Kenkun-machi terminus, sometimes leaving passengers behind.
