Keisei-Nishifuna opened on 30 December 1916 as Katsushika Station (葛飾駅), named for the then-Higashi-Katsushika County village in which it stood. The village merged into Funabashi City in 1937, and following the 1967 residential-address overhaul that renamed the surrounding district "Nishifuna" after nearby Nishi-Funabashi Station, the station was renamed Keisei-Nishifuna on 1 April 1987 to avoid confusion with stations in Katsushika Ward of Tokyo. The 1970s saw substantial expansion after striking JNR services drove overflow passengers here from the Tōzai Line; the station building was rebuilt with a new footbridge in 1974, platforms were extended to eight cars in 1999, and Keisei numbering assigned KS20 on 17 July 2010. A station-wide refresh followed in 2019.

When the station was renamed in 1987 over local protests, Keisei agreed to display Funabashi City explanatory plaques recording the older Katsushika name on the Keisei-Ueno-bound platform, and the retired old signage was donated to the neighbouring Funabashi City Katsushika Elementary School.
