Kami-Iwami Station opened on December 6, 1924 in what is now the town of Nichinan, Tottori Prefecture. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on April 1, 1987 the station came under JR West, which continues to operate it on the Hakubi Line. The station has one ground-level side platform and one ground-level island platform connected to the station building by a footbridge, and is unattended.

In fiscal 2018 the station was used by an average of 22 passengers per day, making it one of the most lightly used stops on the Hakubi Line.
