History

Kamigō Station opened on 2 November 1914 with the extension of the Yamaguchi Line from Ogōri (today's Shin-Yamaguchi) to Ōtoshi. With the privatisation of the Japan National Railway on 1 April 1987 the station passed to the West Japan Railway Company. It sits beside Japan National Route 9 in Yamaguchi city, close to Yamaguchi Gakugei University and Yamaguchi Municipal Kamigō Elementary School. As of fiscal 2020 the station was an unstaffed halt serving local Yamaguchi Line trains.
