Iyo-Tachikawa Station opened on 3 March 1986 as one of three in-fill stops constructed by Japanese National Railways when a new stretch of track was built to link Mukaibara with the existing Uchiko Line at Uchiko. That route is now operated as the Uchiko branch of the Yosan Line. With the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987, control passed to JR Shikoku, which numbered the station "U09". It is an unstaffed elevated station with an island platform serving two tracks (the 1-line through configuration permits 110 km/h passage). Only local trains call here, and eastbound services terminate at Matsuyama.

The station curve has a radius of 600 m, but the through-track design still permits non-stop trains to pass at 110 km/h.
