History

The station opened on 20 June 1925 as Butsusakagami Station (仏坂上駅) on the Iizaka Electric Tramway. It was renamed to its present name, Iōji-mae, on 20 November 1926, referring to the nearby Iō-ji temple. The station is now served by Fukushima Kōtsū's Iizaka Line, 7.4 km from the line's terminus at Fukushima.
