• JR Hitahikosan Line: Daigyōji ⇄ Ōtsuru

Hōshuyama Station opened on 22 August 1937 when the Hikosan Line was extended from Yoake, providing service in Tōhō village, Fukuoka Prefecture. In 1960 the line was reorganised and renamed the Hitahikosan Line. Freight handling ended in 1971, the station was unstaffed the same year, and JR Kyushu took over at the 1 April 1987 privatisation. Service was suspended on 5 July 2017 after torrential rain devastated the line, and on 28 August 2023 the route reopened as the Hitahikosan Line BRT (BRT Hikoboshi Line) with the platform converted to a dedicated bus stop. The renovated station building reopened as a children-focused community space in December 2025.

Hōshuyama is the only railway station in Kyushu whose grounds straddle two prefectures, with roughly two-thirds of the site in Fukuoka and the remainder in Ōita.
