• Jōetsu Shinkansen: Takasaki ⇄ Kumagaya

Honjō-Waseda Station was built at the local community's request, and the entire construction cost outside of land acquisition — roughly ¥11.5 billion — was met by Saitama Prefecture, the City of Honjō and surrounding bodies and by donations from the public. Of the donations, ¥700 million came from Waseda University. JR East, Saitama Prefecture and Honjō City signed an agreement on the new station on 1998-12-16; ground was broken on 2001-08-01, and the station opened on the Jōetsu Shinkansen on 2004-03-13. From 2005-12-10 all regular Jōetsu Shinkansen Tanigawa services began stopping here. Touch-de-Go Shinkansen service became available in April 2018, and Shinkansen e-Ticket service in March 2020. The name Honjō-Waseda was selected from a public competition.

The fare distance is borrowed from Honjō Station on the Takasaki Line, roughly 2 km away, and Suica commuter tickets allow holders to treat Honjō Station as if it were Honjō-Waseda when selecting their route.
