Hinase Station opened on 1 March 1955 as the temporary terminus of the Japanese National Railways Akō Line extension from Banshū-Akō, in the Hinase district of Bizen, Okayama Prefecture. The line was pushed further west to Ibe on 25 March 1958, making Hinase an intermediate stop. Freight handling ended on 1 October 1974, parcel handling on 1 February 1984, and the station was placed under contracted operation on 29 July 1983. With the 1 April 1987 JNR privatisation, the station came under JR West. ICOCA-compatible readers were installed on 15 September 2018, and the ticket window closed on 31 May 2019, leaving the station unstaffed from 1 June 2019. Its number is JR-N15.

Built on reclaimed seafront, Hinase sits within walking distance of Hinase Port, from which passenger ferries depart for the islands of the Hinase archipelago.
