History
Higashi-Yamashiro Station stands in the city of Imari, Saga Prefecture, 16.3 km from the start of the Nishi-Kyūshū Line at Arita. The line, originally JR Kyushu's Matsuura Line, was transferred on 1 April 1988 to the third-sector Matsuura Railway, which has operated it since under the present Nishi-Kyūshū name. Trains on this branch terminate at either Imari or Saza; passengers can transfer at Imari for Arita services or at Saza for trains to Sasebo. The station today is a simple ground-level halt with a single side platform serving a bidirectional track, in keeping with the rural commuter character of this section.
