Higashi-Saigawa-Sanshirō Station opened on 18 March 1993 as a purpose-built infill station on the Heisei Chikuhō Railway's Tagawa Line. The station has a single side platform with a shelter, no station building, and is barrier-free via ramps and stairs. Its unusual full name pays tribute to literary critic Toyotaka Komiya, born in the surrounding town of Miyako, who is traditionally cited as the model for the title character of Natsume Sōseki's novel Sanshirō (which has its protagonist hailing from Miyako-gun). The station serves the Zokumyōin district of Miyako, Fukuoka, and carries the station number HC25.

The "Sanshirō" in the name refers to the protagonist of Natsume Sōseki's 1908 novel — Sōseki set the character's birthplace in Miyako-gun, the very district the station sits in.
