Hida-Hosoe Station opened on 25 October 1934 as part of the Rail Ministry's extension of the Takayama Main Line between Hida-Kosaka and Sakakami, in what is now the Kesamaru district of Hida, Gifu Prefecture. Freight services were withdrawn on 21 July 1969, the station was placed under entrusted management on 1 October 1969, and parcel handling ceased on 1 February 1984. The stop was destaffed on 1 April 1985, and JR Central took over at the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. Two opposed ground-level side platforms are linked by a footbridge, and the original wooden station building from the year of opening remains in use under management from Takayama Station.

The wooden station building dates from the line's 1934 opening and is still in everyday use after more than ninety years.
