• Ibusuki Makurazaki Line: Sakanoue ⇄ Hirakawa

Goino Station opened on 7 December 1930 as the southern terminus of the then Ibusuki Line laid from Nishi-Kagoshima (now Kagoshima-Chūō). It became a through-station on 20 May 1934 when track was extended south to Kiire. The route was renamed the Ibusuki Makurazaki Line on 31 October 1963, and the station passed to JR Kyushu on 1 April 1987 with the privatisation of JNR. The station was destaffed on 8 March 1983 when the line was switched to centralised traffic control. SUGOCA IC cards became usable from 1 December 2012, and the remote-assistance "ANSWER" Smart Support Station system was introduced on 30 May 2020.

The concrete footbridge linking the two platforms was installed in 1983 to replace a stationmaster-operated retractable staircase used during the steam era; identical bridges were built at Sesekushi and Maenohama at the same time as CTC was rolled out.
