Fusa Station opened on 1 April 1901 as part of the original Narita Railway (Naritekisha) extension from Narita to Abiko, handling passenger and freight traffic in present-day Abiko, Chiba. The Narita Railway was nationalised on 1 September 1920, becoming part of the JGR and later the JNR. Scheduled freight ceased on 1 October 1962, and the line was electrified on 28 September 1973. A bridged three-storey station building was completed on 12 April 1993, with automated ticket gates introduced in July 1995. JR East assumed operations at privatisation on 1 April 1987, and Suica IC service began on 18 November 2001. Elevators were added across both entrances during 2005–2006.

Crossing the Tone River at Sakaibashi from Fusa Station takes pedestrians into Tone, Ibaraki — a town with no rail stations of its own, so Fusa serves as the closest railhead for its municipal offices and schools.
